Pathway to Independence

Workshops

Personal Development

In the personal development sessions, our young people will identify their strengths and interests so they can start working towards their next steps. They will also develop resilience, social awareness and interaction, personal safety and E-Safety.

Cookery

These sessions give our young people the opportunity to plan a healthy meal, shop, cook and share a meal with others as part of our social development programme.

They will be able to shop on a budget, price compare, understand food safety and hygiene, plan and cook a balanced meal as well as keep a clean kitchen.

Our Workshops

Workshops such as up-cycling, carpentry and bike and general maintenance, are run by experienced facilitators and people from the world of work, giving our young people an insight as to what steps they need to take to get where they want to be.

Essential work skills will promote communication, creativity, teamwork, organisational and problem solving skills.

Travel Training

Our young people, with varying degrees of independence, will be able to meet friends, shop, travel to and from college or work and explore their communities.

They will develop the ability to plan a route, read timetables, keep safe and develop communication skills.

Personal Projects

Our young people identify areas of interest and choose a project to develop their skills. Engaging in an interest helps with self-regulation and develops self-worth.

Young people will develop creativity, self-regulation strategies and become more proactive in their learning.

Through their personal projects students are supported to find links to future training or work.

Horticulture

Our young people work to maintain the land to grow produce to use in our kitchens. Carpentry skills are also developed when constructing flower beds, fences and sheds.

They will develop skills in cultivating fruit and vegetables, planning, organisation, problem-solving, teamwork and communication.

Functional Maths and English

Young people will develop problem solving skills using real life situations. English and Maths is delivered discreetly during session but accreditations are offered to those who need for their next steps.

Community Projects

Our young people get involved in community projects. This gives them the opportunity to develop communication and work skills as well as an understanding of what workopportunities are available to them.
